The IV International Congress «Cardiology at a Crossroad of Sciences» in conjunction with VIII International Symposium of Echocardiography and Vascular Ultrasound and ÕX Annual International Conference «Cardiology Update» was held from 22 to 24 May 2013 in Tyumen Cardiology Center. This year the scientific meeting attracted about 550 participants from 15 countries and 50 regions of Russia. Leading cardiologists from USA, Austria, Germany, Serbia, Italy and many other countries presented lectures at the meeting.

During three days of fruitful scientific work a lot of pressing issues were discussed. Special attention was given to new capabilities of high-technology methods of treating cardiovascular diseases and modern advances in functional and ultrasound diagnostics. A total of 60 faculties took part in the Congress as well as more than 70 presentations were delivered.

The highlight of the Congress was educational but with the fun team-based competition «World Open Championship on Echocardiography». The author and presenter of the contest was outstanding scientist Natesa G. Pandian, Professor of Medicine from Tufts University School of Medicine, Director of the Heart Valve Clinic and Director of the Cardiovascular Ultrasound Research from Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Throughout the interactive workshop Professor Pandian demonstrated interesting clinical cases from his real practice while participants must make diagnosis or show correct approach to patients and treatment in different instances. For every correct answer a team got points. The competition performance was extraordinary and exciting so that the audience and participants couldn`t leave Professor Pandian to go. Furthermore, workshop on hemodynamics for young scientists was presented by Professor Pandian on the next day and received a lot of favourable reviews.

Within the congress there was also a poster presentation competition where 61 scientific works were presented. The Committee consisted of specialists from Russia, Latvia, and Serbia. The best posters were given acknowledgements and prizes. Scientists from Chelyabinsk, Tyumen and Tomsk were considered the winners of the poster session. According to Professor Boris L. Mironkov, Chief Scientific Researcher of the Department of Cardiac Surgery, Heart and Lung Transplantation from the Federal Research Center of Transplantology and Artificial Organs (Moscow, Russia) it was very hard to define the winners because the major presented works were highly important for science. The best poster presentations were selected taking into consideration both form and content.

Along with intensive scientific program gests and participants were invited to a unique spectacular live concert «Live, love, dance». Special surprise of the farewell party was national hero of the book The Age of Happiness, so called «Elvis Presley`s grandfather» Valentin Badich from Yekaterinburg.
